NetMute is an outbound firewall for macOS. Its purpose is simple: block any outgoing network connection unless you explicitly allow it. This protects your Mac from apps, background processes, or malware trying to “phone home” without your consent.
NetMute is one of the strongest outbound firewalls on macOS.
Note: macOS does not include an outgoing firewall. Apple’s built-in firewall only handles incoming connections (inbound firewall), which means every app on your Mac can freely send data to any server without restriction. If you want control over what leaves your Mac, you need a third-party solution like NetMute.
Features
Outbound firewall – blocks apps from sending data out
Per‑app internet blocking – allow or deny each app individually
Real‑time connection monitoring
Tracker blocking – blocks known analytics domains
Connection alerts – notifications when apps try to connect
Automatic rule learning – remembers your decisions
System requirements:
• macOS 14 Sonoma or newer
• CPU: Apple Silicon or Intel Mac
